Don’t be a couch potato!
We are all at risk of becoming couch potatoes over the next few weeks or even months (If you’re reading this in the future google what happened in 2020) so being active can seem even more of a challenge but standing up and moving now could be just the step in the right direction you need. And if you are reading this in the future when all is back to normal you can apply so much of this to the office.
What is something like standing up actually going to do for me?
- Reduces the risk of weight gain and obesity
- Lowers the risk of heart disease
- Lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes
- Eases and reduces lower back pain
- Increases energy levels and improves mood
- Boosts productivity
OK! So how can I start doing this?
As simple as going for a walk and in today’s day and age everybody can use this time productively by having walking meetings or make those phone calls whilst you go on your walk. If you have the option to utilise stairs, then take them and if you’re at home every time you do something, set yourself a few laps of the stairs to up those steps.
When you clean up at home do it vigorously and will help burn a few extra calories and get your heart and lungs working.
If you can try to use a basket when shopping, sneaky little weights session there instead of pushing that trolly around. And when you go somewhere in the car park further away, those extra steps add up.
When you’re working create a little stand up desk or if this isn’t possible set little alarms to remind you to get up and go do a little lap of the house or the office.
Keep standing and stay healthy guys.
